BIS FMCS Certification

Under the BIS Act 2016, BIS regulates the FMCS (Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme) for foreign manufacturers exporting products to India.

According to this scheme, BIS issues a license for the use of ISI Mark on the products conforming to Indian Standards. Foreign manufacturers willing to sell and import their products in the Indian market need to be FMCS certified. This entails product testing, document verification and factory audit for quality, safety and reliability standards. The primary goal of BIS FMCS Certification is to safeguard the Indian consumer, ensuring that the products imported into India are safe, of good quality, and meet Indian standards.

FMCS BIS Certification

BIS Standard Mark

BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark and CRS Mark) is issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These marks are to make sure that the product meets the Indian Standard as laid by BIS. BIS can certify with ISI and CRS after proper evaluation, inspection, documenting and testing procedures. This is a process to validate the manufacturer's compliance to the standards, guidelines and quality requirements laid down by BIS.

Importance of FMCS Certification

Foreign manufacturers mandatory to export and sell their products in the Indian market must have FMCS BIS Certification. Manufacturers are not allowed to legally sell mandatory products in India without this certification. BIS certification facilitates the easy market entry of businesses into the Indian market and also ensures adherence to the Indian quality and safety standards. It also enhances the trust of the customers, increases the brand credibility, and gives legal approval to imports.

Requirements for FMCS BIS Certification

  • Manufacturing unit must be located outside India.
  • Manufacturer must accept BIS license terms & conditions.

  • In-house testing lab and quality control team are required.
