BIS Registration & Certification in India

Manufacturers looking to sell products in India must have the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Registration and Certification. By testing products against Indian quality, safety, and performance standards, BIS allows consumers to make informed choices about products they can rely on for their quality and safety. The BIS certification could be compulsory or voluntary depending on the product category. The BIS approval is necessary for manufacturing, importing, or selling various regulated items such as electronics, IT products, household appliances, industrial equipment, toys, and more.

BIS CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) is a scheme mandated by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for certain electronic and IT product in India. The scheme brought by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) guarantees that products meet Indian safety and quality standards before reaching the market. To get approval, the manufacturers need to go through the registration procedure and have their products tested in BIS-recognized test laboratories. BIS CRS Registration ensures that consumer is safe, no substandard products are sold, ensures regulatory compliance and increase of customers' trust, by assuring that the certified products conform to the Indian Standard. As per this scheme, foreign manufacturers, who have a BIS licence, can use the ISI Mark to ensure that their products meet Indian standards for quality and safety. AIR certification involves product testing, factory inspection, and assignment of Authorized Indian Representative (AIR). FMCS certification provides assurance of regulatory compliance, customer confidence and provides access to the Indian market to foreign manufacturers without any legal or trade restrictions.

BIS Standard Mark

BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark and CRS Mark) is issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These marks are to make sure that the product meets the Indian Standard as laid by BIS. This is a process to validate the manufacturer's compliance to the standards, guidelines and quality requirements laid down by BIS.

Importance of Certification

Foreign manufacturers mandatory to export and sell their products in the Indian market must have BIS Certification. Manufacturers are not allowed to legally sell mandatory products in India without this certification. BIS certification facilitates the easy market entry of businesses into the Indian market and also ensures adherence to the Indian quality and safety standards. It also enhances the trust of the customers, increases the brand credibility, and gives legal approval to imports.
